Navigating the New Era: Preparing for Google Consent Mode v2.0 Deadline

As the deadline of March 6, 2024, draws near, there's a big update on the horizon that we all need to get ready for—Google Consent Mode version 2.0. This might sound like just another item on the never-ending checklist of digital updates, but it's a pretty big deal for all of us in the publishing world.

So, what's the big change? Google Consent Mode 2.0 is all about enhancing how consent is managed and how cookies are used on websites and apps. It's designed to make sure that how we collect data aligns with user consent, keeping in step with GDPR and other privacy regulations. In short, it's about making sure we respect our users' choices while still getting the insights we need.

For those of us using Google services like Analytics and Ads, it means we need to check in with our Consent Management Platform (CMP) provider to make sure we're all set for the transition. The new update introduces two new permissions related to ad personalization and user data, tied to the "marketing" cookie category. The bottom line is, we need to get user consent for personalized ads before the March 2024 deadline.

Here's the kicker: if we don't make these updates, Google has said they won't support advertising on our sites.

But don't worry, if you're using our integration with Sourcepoint for your website, you can breathe easy. We've already made the necessary updates for you.

For those with apps, especially if you're using SDK tags, there's a bit more work to be done to ensure your code is up to date.

We've got all the info you need to make this transition as smooth as possible:
